ADMISSIONS POLICY

The school admits children in accordance with the policy laid down by Bath & North East Somerset local education authority. The school can admit 21 children into the reception year. If more than 21 applications are received, the LEA then decides which children should be offered places. There is an appeals procedure for parents who wish to challenge the decision.

Children are offered three full terms of education in their reception year and most are admitted in the September following their fourth birthday. Legally, however, children do not have to be in school until the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday, so parents may defer the start of school until January or April if they wish. To ease the transition into school, children attend half-days only for the first three weeks.

Children are invited into school for three half-hour story sessions in the summer term preceding their entry. They are also invited to attend a full morning session in July. Parents are invited to a meeting at the beginning of the summer term when the school’s induction programme is explained. There is a follow-up meeting in October to provide help for parents in supporting their child’s learning.
